THE SOUNDTRACK

jeremy avis, a polish journey, piano, chopin

The soundtrack was based on Frédéric Chopin Préludes, Op.28 No.15 in D flat (Raindrop) – one of the first stages of creating the film was to develop the music in line with the structure of the documentary. Jeremy Avis, who has collaborated on previous projects, worked on a series of improvisations based on motifs from the composition. Working with the thematic elements of the Seven Ages of Man, a series of music beds were created at the keys of a grand piano – the resulting pieces became the background to the shoot with it playing on the CD player during the long car journeys and subsequently underscoring the initial edits.. As the script and edit took shape, the music was adapted and sampled by Natalia Kulabuchova who developed the pieces further by drawing out the mood using loops and drones. The final act of the film features and uninterrupted and unaltered version of the Chopin piece.
